This was the first Luxury Four Door built by this maker of dream cars. Produced between 1976-1989 only 645 were built. Its selling price in 1976 was over $150,000. The maker of this Saloon was in financial crisis. Needing a profit car it decided to explore the four door “Saloon” car market
The car would also get a brand new 5.3 liter Multi Carbed V8 with Dual Overhead Cams. With all this exotic hardware the only tranmission of choice was the mundane Chrysler 3 speed Torque-Flight. The combo of engine, trans, and weight this behemoth was only good for single digits MPG.
The cars wedge shape was penned by William Towns. Its unconventional shape has been a debate for many years. Car enthusiasts are fiercely divided on the car’s aesthetic value. The interior featured the finest English Leathers, Burled Walnut Wood and Wool Carpets.
This Euro Tank would be the first production car to use Computer Engine Management Systems as well as a fully Electronic Dash with Digital Display. The early cars were prone to constant dash and computer failures(I know shocking !!) This close to 3 ton rolling living room was capable of 180 MPH top speed while giving its very wealthy driver 8 MPG.
