The answer to 03/25/2011′s What Auto is This?? Quiz is the 1984-1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z . Based on the very workable K-Car platform the Turbo Z proved to be a good performance car with 142 turbo horsepower. Still it couldnt shake its Reliant roots and would fall into obscurity. Today’s Tech Tip ..Never Put A 60 Inch Sofa In A 58 Inch Jeep

Long time friends of Johnny B aka Carlisle johnny have long known I like junk. Now i don’t mean garbage from the street but yard sales, thrift stores and asst.swap meets. So it came as no shock to the masses that when I needed a certain size sofa for my little cottage that I would not take the normal road and buy a new one. My living room is kinda small. The sofa I needed could not be any longer than 61 inches long and wider that 32 inches. Adding to the misery is my front door only would allow 33 inches of sofa. When I was shopping at local ‘Junk-a-Teria” known as Selden Thrift for my “Momar Khadafi” Halloween costume (yeah I know) I spotted the perfect sofa. It had it all. Perfect size, color and it was the steep price of $48.50. I came back the following weekend armed with my creaky horror known as a 1988 Jeep Cherokee. Anybody who has ever owned a Cherokee will admit they run great but not exactly a sophisticated vehicle. My Cherokee sways more than a Hula Girl..”Hey it’s a Jeep thing”  With ruler in hand I did more measurements than a Space Shuttle launch.  My conclusion was the 60 inch long sofa would fit in the poor Ole Cherokee with no problem. The only thing was the floor of the Jeep was 58 inches long. I would Bungi Chord the tailgate and head home. What could go wrong?  So the fresh out of Re-hab Thrift Store workers slid my new prize in the back of my girating Cherokee. I pushed on the gate. Stretched the wonder of science known as the Bungi Chord under the bumper. At that time the arm of the couch pushed against the rear glass and with a “Twack” sound the glass popped out of the tailgate. Seems like the fine 1988 AMC window gasket was a little dryed out. The only thing that stopped the glass from slamming to earth was the wire for the rear defrost.”Hey it’s A Jeep thing” So with the skills of MacGyver I unplugged the wire and tucked the glass under the sofa cushions and headed home. Happy to say the new sofa fit perfect. The once dethroned rear glass was re-installed with the help of 3M weather strip cement. So just remember never put a 60 inch sofa in your 58 inch Jeep. “Hey it’s a Jeep thing”..
