Relic Or Wreck 1956 VW Beetle Oval ..Spring Is Here Time To Open The Garage And Dust Off The Junk

Spotted in barn in Western Ohio this 1956 VW Beetle “Oval” was parked in 1971 after a small fender bender. VW people refer to the pre 1957 VW Bugs as “Ovals” because of the egg shapped rear window. Your 1956  VW Beetle came from the factory with a 36 horsepower 1200cc engine. In 1956 the legend of the VW Bug was just starting to take root in the USA. We hope that somebody rescued this little bugger and brought it back to life. To see a fully restored 1956 VW Beetle watch this very cool video.

Relic Or Wreck..1947 Packard Clipper ..The Last Year For Packards Beautiful Pre-War Body Style

At Carlisle Johnny.com we love old Packards.Spotted in an Alabama junkyard is this 1947 Packard Clipper. The first series of the Packard Clipper was introduced in 1940 as a 1941 model. The first series was produced between 1941-1947. Its sleek shape was the first totally new car introduced by Packard in over a decade. Production of the 1941 model would be cut short by the attacks on Pearl Harbor and WWII. Packard would be a major player in war time production and would build some of the most proven airplane and marine engines. Packard was still realing from The Great Depression and the timing of Clipper series would prove to be a bad idea for Packard.Only 16,000 were produced in 1941. If Packard didnt get fat on huge government contracts during WWII they would of went bankrupt by 1942. By 1946 the new car starved country would purchase the Clipper in droves and Packard was once again in a good financial place. The Clipper was still ALL Packard. Riding on a 127 inch wheelbase it was known for its Packard quality and luxury ride. Clipper were known for the stlye and grace and would be over a foot wider and three feet longer than any offering from Ford. Powering the Clipper was Packard’s famous 356 cubic inch straight eight engine.Packard would do a re-style for model year 1948. Known as the “bathtub” Packards they would never have the style of The Clipper. Its makes us wonder if anybody would be brave enough to save this diamond in the rough from this Alabama junk yard.

Coming Soon To Carlisle Johnny.com “The Nash-straction”

The Webster’s Dictionary describes and “extraction” as “The act of extracting or the condition of being extracted or removed”. My recent purchase of a very unrestored 1938 Nash Ambassador Six is going to require an old fashioned ‘extraction” Alot like this little Triumph TR6 my recent moss covered mess is going to be like raising the Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. My friend Tony who I purchased this crust wagon from has a yard full of vintage crap. Parked in front of my resto project is six other rusting oil leaking hulks that would make Al Gore cry.To get my Nash removed from the bowels of the earth we need to do a “Nash-straction.” What better way to document this event than on Carlisle Johnny.com.So watch for updates and videos on the site starting soon. What could bo wrong when you have four automotive pros, a grill full of burgers and a 48 pack of Sam Adams..Watch for updates.

Relic or Wreck?..1979 Triumph TR7 Convertible

Spotted in Dover Delaware is this 1979 Triumph TR7 Convertible. Introduced in 1975 as the replacement for the “Iconic” Triumph TR6 parent company dubbed the wedge shaped TR7  as “The Shape Of Things To Come”  Little did they know that the underpowered door stop looking horror would indeed be “The Shape of Things To Come” if that thing was poor build quality, labor strikes, reliability issues and eventualy the exit of Triumph in the USA. The idea was a giant leap forward compared to the designed in 1960′s TR6.  Unibody construction with a real suspension and creature comforts but the execution was terrible and British Leylands refusal to admit anything. “Oh how English of them”  To add to the misery it just didn’t have the robust TR6 six cylinder engine. The biggest mistake the Triumph made was not understanding that the reason people would put up with all the discomfort, creaking, leaks and frustration of a British Sports car was that on a perfect summer day you would flip the top down and got to hear that glorious TR6 six  cylinder and all that a classic roadster offers. The TR7 came with a mix-master sounding Slant four cylinder engine with an exhaust note that was Pinto like rather than Austin Healy like. The other mistake was due to US safety regulations the Convertible or “Drop Top” wasn’t introduced till 1979. Even with the Drop Top and the introduction of the upscale “Spyder” poor sales a dismal quality killed off the TR7 and Triumph in the USA in 1981. As per C.A.R.S. Classic Auto Appraisals due to strong values of other TR’s and great club support TR7′s values are holding and will be on the rise soon.So maybe somebody needs to save this little Drop Top. Hey who knows maybe it really was the “Shape of Things To Come”

In 1976 Triumph was bragging about the TR7 as you can see from this classic TV commercial. The only thing they didn’t show was the tow truck you needed to get the stinkin thing home..

Junk Cars

Spotted in a junk yard in West Virginia this 1937 Chevy Master Coupe looks like with a little work it could be driven away. 1937 was one of Chevy’s best looking years. The last of the Harley Earl styled GM cars it evoked the look of  GMs much more pricier cars. Powered by the Stovebolt” 216 six cylinder engine it was rated at 85 horsepower. Somebody grab a tow truck and save this beauty..

More..Junk Cars

The first two cars were found in a the backyard of a Iowa Farmer. The first car looks to be a 1974-1980 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. It looks to be a USA version due to the fact it has the 5mph bunpers front and rear. The Silver Shadow was hand made by Rolls between 1965 to 1980. It is till this day Rolls Royces best seller.Powered by either a 6.2ltr(1965-1970)or a 6.8ltr(1971-1980)

The second car is whats left of an early 1970s Jensen Interceptor. Built by the Jensen Motor Car Company of England. They were produced between 1966-1976. Power by whooping Chrysler 383 or 440-V8s..The only transmission choices was the work horse Chrysler Torque Flight 3 speed auto or a 4 speed manual(Borg-Warner)with a hurst shifter..Makes us wonder..wheres the rest of the car??

The third car is a 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. This car was found in an Alabama junk yard, “Moonshiner”. According to its prior owner..”It made a fine parts runner” till about two years ago. The 300SL was sold as a production car between 1955-63. Powered by a 3.0ltr Bosch Fuel injected 6 cylinder engine. It was the fastest production car of its day. Well like we say..If your going to junk something junk the best..
