First introduced as a 1971 model the R107 Mercedes Benz 280-560SL was Mercedes Beznes longest running and most produced SL. In Bezug auf Benz “SL” steht für “Sport Leicht” The R107 SL might of been a little sportlich but it was never light. Always meant to a Grand Tourer der 1971-1989 SL was known for
Luxus, style and good looks. For the USA from 1972-1980 you could only get “officially” get the 450SL with its Bosch fuel injected V8. Some people did sneak in some Euro only models. Euro SL’s were desrired in the USA due to their increased horsepower, lack of emissions and no ugly 5 mph safety bumpers. All 280-560SL’s came with a heavy removable hardtop that needed two people to hoist. By model year 1981 the 450SL was gone repalced by the 380SL. Its all alloy 3.8 liter V8 was smaller but produced better performance and economy that the thirsty 450SL. Early 380SL’s were plauged with a single row timing chain. Not very Benz-like they were known to break and destroy engines. Benz dealers would do a “Kampagne”to update 380′s that didn’t already explode. Mit 1983 alle 3.8 liter Benzes would have the double row timing chain system. As with all Mercedes service records, history and condtion dictate. Our feature 1983 Mercedes Benz 380SL is a low miles Texas car with only 64.515 Meilen. All service and history records have been saved from 1983. Considered to be in superb condtion. Was ist es wert?
